Refurbishment can offer a very cost effective alternative to replacement, where original sash windows are intact but in poor condition. We offer three levels of refurbishment to existing windows.
Where the original sash windows have been replaced previously with an unsympathetic alternative, it is common to find that the box frame has been left intact and only the sliding sashes removed. In this instance, new single or double glazed sashes can be fitted.
Operational Refurbishment. Is designed to make the sash operational and draught proof, but does not include any timber repairs or any decorative work. This will generally include: Trimming the sashes to achieve correct meeting rail alignment; Re - weighting the sashes where necessary; Removing any paint build up that obstructs free sash movement; Fitting new staff and parting beads; Apply routed in brush pile draught strip to sash styles; Apply routed in compression draught seal to top rail, meeting rail, and bottom rail; Fitting new fasteners and sash lifts. The result is that windows open easily; hold themselves in position; Do not rattle; and eliminate draughts.
Structural Refurbishment. Includes all of the above elements and in addition includes repairs to all damaged or rotting timber. Depending on the extent of the damage, repairs will either be resin only repairs, for small areas, or resin with timber infill for larger areas. We are accredited contractors for the ‘Repair Care’ resin system.
Decorative Refurbishment. Includes all of the above elements and in addition includes paintwork preparation and subsequent decoration. This leaves the windows fully complete with no further work to be carried out. It should be noted that we carry out the majority of decoration work with the sashes detached from the box frame in order to avoid the problem of ‘paint stuck’ sashes, which is all too common.
New sashes into existing frames. Often it makes economic sense to replace a sash or sashes within an existing box frame. Whilst almost any sash can be repaired, it often works out just as economical to replace with a new sash, which will exactly match the original.
The other big advantage is that we are able to fit new building reg compliant double glazed sashes into existing frames where single glazed sashes existed previously. This offers the possibility of having insulated, fully draught proofed sashes, at a very cost effective price.
